Creative concept
A creative concept is a single idea from which a commercial, a key visual, social posts and an ad headline can all be derived. It is not the slogan and not the visual, it is why those two work together.
What it means in practice
You can tell it apart from a good idea with a simple test. Write the thought as one sentence with no adjectives. If a thirty second film, a vertical video, a still image and a headline all come out of it, you have a creative concept. If only one thing comes out, you have an idea. Both are worth having, you are just buying different goods. An art director and a copywriter build it after the brief is signed off.
Why this shows up in money: a concept lasts two years, an idea is spent in one wave. A work glove manufacturer orders an autumn campaign with no concept, gets a nice film, and six months later has nothing to build on. The whole creative process is paid for again. That is the part of the budget nobody sees on a rate card, because it arrives as two invoices six months apart.
The sequence is brief, research, expansion, cutting, presentation. Two to three weeks. For every creative concept we present, three or four never leave the studio. That is not waste, it is method: the first ideas are the ones your competitors will also have. From you we need what the campaign must change. Not a wish to be more visible, but a specific sentence about what someone should think or do afterwards.
When a concept is a luxury you do not need: a small performance campaign running on a few hundred euros a month. Making three ad variants and letting the data decide is cheaper. Also watch a habit agencies enjoy. They present three concepts, two of them visibly weaker, so the third wins. Ask for two they would genuinely defend, and make them explain what each one rules out.
Ours has to survive a ten second test: if half the media budget vanished tomorrow, does the idea still work? If it only works at full weight, that is execution, not a creative concept. The other habit: we write the concept as one sentence and send it before the presentation. If the client cannot repeat it back on the phone, we rewrite it.
