Video production
Storyboard
A storyboard is a frame by frame sketch of a video before it is shot. It shows what each shot contains, in what order and with what copy, so the client sees the film before day one of the shoot.
What it means in practice
A storyboard does not have to be art. For a corporate video simple frames with captions are enough; what matters is the order and what is in shot. For animation or a commercial a precise storyboard is mandatory, because redrawing animation after sign off is expensive.
When to skip it: documentary event coverage or interviews, where reality cannot be planned. There a storyboard is false comfort and a shot list of what we must come back with serves better.
